Last Thursday I went home after one of those days where you work really hard, but the site basically looks the same afterwards. Earlier that day I decided to take a long weekend due to the Easter holiday. So on Thursday I ran all my errands, updated my books and made sure that our big shipments had arrived. Everything was a go, I said good bye to the workers and caught a bus.
Monday rolled around and I had a million things to do, so left Viña for Catemu late. I didn´t get the chance to visit the site or my lead construction worker (I´m sure there is some fancy name for him, but I don´t know the construction lingo yet). You can imagine my surprise when I got to the site and found that the desague (the pipes and drainage system for the kitchen and bathroom) had been installed AND five rows of bricks were laid!
Seriously, I think the little ¨heart to heart¨ I had with my team last week was the best thing for this project. On one hand I am sad, because I now have an overly respectful relationship with everyone, when all along I wanted to be their buddy. But oh well, I have enough friends (actually only one but Gwen counts for many). If me being the Boss with a capital B will inspire them work Saturday AND Sunday plus dig a nine meter long hole in the ground and without me, then sign me up.
Honestly, I think the thing that most excites me is that the hole was dug without me having to lift my friend a picota (the pick) all weekend. I just plain and simply hate digging. If someone had told me that I would be digging everyday for two and a half weeks on a house that had NO basement, I wouldn´t have believed it possible. How could there be so much digging I would say. There is, and today we have to level the floor which means.....more digging.
All I have to say is good thing the construction fairies finally made an appearance!
